What is Trauma-Informed Care?

According to the University at Buffalo's Buffalo Center for Social Research, "Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) acknowledges the widespread impact of trauma and focuses on creating environments that support healing and recovery, rather than using practices or services that may unintentionally cause further harm." In essence, TIC is designed to recognize and address the signs, symptoms, and risks associated with trauma, particularly in individuals affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and/or toxic stress. By fostering a supportive environment, TIC helps mitigate the risk of re-traumatization and promotes long-term well-being and resilience for those who have experienced trauma.
