What is Trauma-Informed Care?
The University at Buffalo’s Buffalo Center for Social Research explains that Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) recognizes the far-reaching impact of trauma and aims to create environments that promote healing rather than unintentionally causing additional harm. In practice, TIC focuses on identifying and understanding the signs, symptoms, and risks of trauma—especially for individuals affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) or toxic stress. By fostering safety, support, and trust, Trauma-Informed Care reduces the risk of re-traumatization and helps build long-term resilience and well-being.
